Tim Canova vs Wasserman Schultz on Private For-Profit Immigration Prisons

Back in 2016, I made an issue of Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s support for private prison companies and for a $100 million private for-profit immigration detention center in Southwest Ranches in our district. Now that it suits her politically, Debbie expresses alarm at confining migrant children, calling the practice “demonic.” But in 2016, it was a “low impact economic development strategy” that would have greatly benefitted one of her campaign donors, the Corrections Corporation of America, now called CoreCivic. Our campaign has and always will stand against ANY for-profit prisons or immigration detention centers. No one should have a private financial incentive in locking up human beings in a country that claims to be the land of the free. These facilities are one of the main reasons the United States leads the world in incarcerated people. And it's the people's interest that we have at heart, not any corporations or predatory special interests. Please join and support our campaign at TimCanova.com #ProgressForAll
