H. Jack’s Plumbing & Heating Co. Vice President, Patrick Kotek, spoke with FOX 8 Reporter, Kevin Freeman, on January 26, 2022 about the freezing temperatures in Cleveland, Ohio and how to prevent frozen pipes, properly maintain your furnace, and protect yourself from carbon monoxide in your home. Northeast Ohio is experiencing continued cold winter weather and H. Jack’s has technicians prepared for non-stop service to the community. “All the crews have been running 24 hours a day. We give them breaks, they get their shift, and they get their rest, but we’ve been very, very busy,” said Kotek. H. Jack’s Super Plumber in Cleveland has been working nonstop for at least the past month and with colder weather, they’ll get even more calls, especially for frozen pipes and no heat. A few tips for homeowners to protect their pipes and water lines from freezing are to (1) know where your main water shut-off valve is because if a pipe does burst, you need to be able to shut off the water until a plumber can come out and make repairs, (2) keep cabinet doors open below the bathroom and kitchen sinks especially if they’re on an outside wall that gets very cold so that space needs extra heat to circulate in from your home, and (3) let your hot and cold water faucets run slowly because running water will not cause your pipes to freeze as easily. In order to keep your furnace running smoothly, make sure that the flue is clear outside (nothing is blocking it), your furnace filter is clean and changed every month, and you have new batteries in the thermostat. If your furnace stops working, check those things and then call H. Jack’s if you still need service. If your heat does go out, take precautions with space heaters so that they do not cause a house fire. Also, do not use the oven or stove as a heat source due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Since your furnace and hot water tank are running more during the cold winter, and your house is all closed up, there is a greater chance that carbon monoxide could be trapped in your home. Be sure to always have working smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. For regular or emergency 24/7 plumbing or heating service in Cleveland, Akron, or Canton, call H.
