In 868 Hrafna-Flóki Vilgerðarsson, also known as Floki, travelled with his family in search of new and unexplored land. In order to be successful on his quest, he sought help from nature. Records say that Floki purchased three raven birds and in the middle of his strenuous journey he let them fly away. After one raven flew west and never returned the norseman was convinced that there was great land ahead that could be conquered.
