Song: Three 6 Mafia Producer: Steve Sap Label: Grey Sunset Studios Contact: [email protected] I can vividly remember hearing Triple Six Mafia for the first time ever when a friend of my older brother gave us a copy of Live By Yo Rep because he knew we were fans of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Of course, the first song he played for us was, Live By Yo Rep, the Screwed version. Instantaneously, it became a love and hate (too harsh of a word to use) relationship, sonically. I was torn between this newly discovered group that had just dissed one of my all time favorite groups and it sounded INSANE! So insane that I listen to that album over and over. Studied it. Absorbed it. Became a fanatic and the journey of becoming a collector of their catalog began. My very first purchase from the Hypnotize Camp Posse was When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1 & Mystic Stylez from Repo Records here in Charlotte, NC thanks to recommendation from the store clerk. THANK YOU! FOREVER! As I stated before, I was hooked. Whatever albums were available to purchase, I got them. All the Triple Six underground tapes, solo projects and Screwed & Chopped editions. One thing I always looked forward to from all their albums was to hear the GLORIOUS, Posse Songs. Hearing DJ Paul & Juicy J’s productions inspired me to really tap in with the soulful sounds of the 70’s and I can’t Thank them enough for that. It astonished me how they could flip a soulful sample and make it their own sound. From a playa stand point to a dark and gritty take giving the world a musical visualization of what Memphis, TN represented at the time.
