Tom Rocko - Guitar & Vocals, Greg Slusher - Bass Guitar & Vocals, Danger Dave - Drums, Mark White - Keyboards ~ Honored to have the opportunity to pick with Forbidden Fruit Farmers at Lori's Birthday Party, held at Lori's farm in rural Arcadia - Gig was booked for 2-6 pm, so everyone was there by 1:15pm to set-up - we set up outside, under cover, with temperatures in the 'Sunny & mid-70's' range - We had the pleasure of Mark White on keyboards, until 4:00, when he had to leave to go play a gig with The Jack Moseley Band - Only the 2nd time I've had the pleasure of playing with Mark... What a Monster Keyboard player he is... On one of our later breaks, Danger Dave started talking to a couple of young kids, who had been sitting behind him, watching him play drums - After finding out that one of them was interested in playing drums, Dave graciously & considerately allowed him to get behind his drum kit & play. I stumbled out to the van to sit & catch my breath a little, listening to what Dallas (maybe 10 years old) was doing on the drums. Then, Andrea (maybe 13 yrs. old) started playing accents on the cymbals - Before long, they had a pretty steady beat goin', but it still sounded kinda empty - After listening a few more minutes, I started hearing bass lines in my head that would kinda work with what they were playing... Then, I realized that what they needed to help pull their Groove together was a good bass player - Since there weren't any around, I figured it was up to me to try & help - I went back to the band stand and started jammin' with Dallas & Andrea - There are a couple of tracks in this Playlist of those jams - I thought Dallas & Andrea would like to hear them - When FFF started playing again, after Mark left, Carl came up to play some harp with us on a few tunes - Well Done, Carl!!! Meanwhile, more & more people showed up, with some of the crowd venturing all the way down the pasture to the river, where we could hear them cheerin' & hollerin' at the end of our songs - Very Cool! As the day progressed into nightfall, we kept playin' & the temperature kept droppin' - By the time we stopped, around 8:30-9:00, the temps had dropped down to the mid-to-low 50's.... Pretty nippy with the wind blowin'... Party-goer's had built a gigantic bonfire in a firepit, with dozens of people sitting & standing around the blaze - After we ended, I made my way to the food table - Unfortunately, the mass of food was virtually gone, except for some, obviously, home made Potato Salad - I scooped me up some to take home - That was, without a doubt, THE Best Potato Salad I have ever eaten - I suspect she might have mixed eggs in with all the normal stuff, but it was Exceptional!!! My Compliments to The Chef...!!! A bunch of people were camping out overnight, but I opted to return home - Arrived home at 11:30 pm, eleven hours after I had left... Quite the long day, especially after only 4 hours sleep the night before, but just a Magnificent Time...!!! Thank You, Forbidden Fruit Farmers, for the opportunity to pick with y'all - and Thank You, Lori, for providing such a Cool & Bodacious location & environment for your Birthday Party...!!!
