Preventing Gender-Based Violence in Humanitarian Crises

Preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Humanitarian Crises: Advancing What We Know Works and Measuring GBV Outcomes On Thursday, October 1, 2020, this Global Protection Cluster (GPC) session looked at several initiatives highlighting current best practices and areas where additional effort is needed to strengthen prevention strategies and programs in humanitarian crises. The opening hour commenced with an overview of emerging findings from two prevention programming scoping studies, separately carried out by InterAction and Plan International. After the comparative analysis, UNICEF shared its program “Communities Care: Transforming Lives and Preventing Violence,” which was implemented and evaluated in Somalia and South Sudan. The second-hour session featured an interactive panel session moderated by Neil Dillon (Data Conscious) with gender-based violence and protection experts Anna Ramazzotti (Sida), Elizabeth Drevlow (BHA), Catherine Poulton (UNICEF), Dr. Kathryn Falb (IRC), May Maloney (ICRC), and Alexandra Shaphren (Plan International).
