THE STORY OF "ADILSON BIGODE," THE CANNON OF THE AFFLICTED IN 2001. Adilson de Lima, BORN ON DECEMBER 14, 1970. Before arriving at Náutico, Adilson played for clubs in the Northeast, including CRB, Sergipe, and Itabaiana, where in 1999 he already had a reputation for having a powerful shot. During his time at CRB, he was called "Adilson Lead Foot." At Itabaiana, nicknamed "Tremendão," he even scored some free-kick goals. On September 19, 1999, at the Agamenon Magalhães Stadium in Goiana (Pernambuco), during the 1999 Série C. The opponent was Unibol, with goalkeeper Fábio, who would later find success at rival Confiança. The match ended 2-2, with a fantastic free-kick goal by Adilson Bigode. In 2000, he went to rival Sergipe. Known as Adilson Bigode, the midfielder arrived at Náutico in 2001 from Sergipe. He was yet another unknown player joining the team amidst an unprecedented crisis. He was never recognized for his technique, but rather for his strength in marking and, above all, for the powerful shots he possessed. So much so that two goals originating from long-range shots mark his career, not only at Náutico, but overall. One was precisely that free-kick goal in the 2001 derby, won by Náutico 2-1. The goal marked Timbu's run to the title, in the club's centenary year, preventing Sport from equaling the greatest achievement in its history, the six-time championship. Adilson spoke about memories such as the memorable goal he scored against Sport, at Ilha do Retiro, in the 2001 Pernambuco Championship, a free kick with the outside of his foot, from a long way out, in a decisive match that eliminated Sport from the first round of that competition. He commented that coach Muricy Ramalho's order was only to mark, but he had the confidence to take that free kick, motivated by Sangaletti. The second goal was a shot from outside the area, in a game against Bragantino, in Bragança Paulista. The equalizing goal in a 1-1 draw saved the red-and-white team from relegation to Série C. "Those were certainly the most important goals of my career," said the midfielder. Adilson left Náutico in 2003. He played for smaller teams in the Northeast until he retired in 2007, at age 37, at Auto Esporte in Paraíba. Today, at 52, he lives in his hometown, Rio Largo, in the interior of Alagoas, where he runs a soccer school linked to the municipality's sports department. He holds his time with Timbu dear to his heart. "It was the most important club of my career. It's a very special club in my life," he said. The surprise is that he completely abandoned his characteristic mustache. He said he was convinced by Kuki, because the short man kept making a joke that he didn't want to reveal. Incidentally, he met Kuki when he was at the stadium for a visit. Adilson Bigode, Thank you! Skill and grit in that midfield of 2001/2002 and 2003.
