Weber Smokey Mountain VS. Pit Barrel Cooker - BBQ Smoker Comparison

Both The Weber Smokey Mountain and the Pit Barrel Cooker are great BBQ Smokers. Both BBQ Smokers were rated 2016 Top 10 Best Value Backyard BBQ Smokers by amazingribs.com. Here is the link to see what other BBQ smokers made the list Information on the Pit Barrel Cooker: https://amzn.to/2IXzHK2 Information on the Weber Smokey Mountain 18 Inch: https://amzn.to/2sqT8Qz Information on the Weber Smokey Mountain 22 Inch: https://amzn.to/2LG8Eke http://amazingribs.com/BBQ_buyers_gui... Below are my opinions regarding the Weber Smokey Mountain and the Pit Barrel Cooker. These are my own opinions. You may come to a different conclusion than me. The main things I liked about the Pit Barrel Cooker Easy to transport due to not many parts Can cook at high temperatures Does good in cold weather Can smoke a lot of food at one time More BBQ flavor than most water cookers Easy clean up Customer Service (You can actually call the owner) Things I like about the Weber Smokey Mountain Very adjustable temperature settings Can control the cooking temperature easily during the cook Accurate thermometer Can smoke for long periods of time (12 hours plus) *Pet friendly (ashes fall below the bottom vents) Things I don't like about the Pit Barrel Cooker No temperature gauge The flat lid (not a lot of cooking height if using the rack..needs to be kept clean) Sometimes a challenge to lower temp if its running hot (there is a hack for that coming in my review video) Not convenient to add charcoal if needed during the cook Things I don't like about the Weber Smokey Mountain Limited cooking volume Not good in cold temperatures Not great access to 2nd cooking grate The water pan is just a nuisance (a pain to clean) whether using foil or not There is no winner between these two BBQ Smokers. I really like both of these smokers equally. It really just depends on what is most important to you. When I bought the Pit Barrel Cooker I was under the assumption that it was going to be very similar to the Weber Smokey Mountain. After using it for a few months I realize that they are two completely different smokers that really compliment each other. Anyone looking to buy the 22.5 inch Weber Smokey Mountain for $399 should consider buying the 18.5 inch Weber Smokey Mountain for $299 and buying the Pit Barrel Cooker for $299 and spend $200 more and have a lot more flexibility. Personally I would buy a used WSM on craigslist. I bought this one for $50 and routinely see them for under $100 and pair it with a new PBC (or used if you can find one). I don't see many Pit Barrel Cookers on craigslist. No matter which smoker you choose between these two you are getting a great smoker that will put out some good food for you.
