Hisense U8QG 85" Review (2025) - Mini LED Contrast King In this 2025 Hisense U8 review, I test the 85-inch mini-LED TV (VA panel) with 4,136 local dimming zones, a 165 Hz panel for PC gaming, three HDMI 2.1 ports, the HiView AI Engine Pro, and Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG support—priced at $2,249.99. Out of the box in Filmmaker Mode it’s good, and after calibration in CalMAN the SDR EOTF tracks well with an average Delta E ~1.7; HDR is a bit over-bright with color checker ~7.3 and ~81.4% UV gamut coverage. Peak brightness hits ~4,150 nits in a 10% window and ~902 nits full-field, so HDR highlights can be eye-searing, though real-scene HDR varies; dynamic tone mapping helps. Contrast is excellent for mini-LED—best I’ve measured—giving OLED-like punch in bright rooms, but micro-contrast still trails OLED and there’s some blooming in dark, off-angle viewing. Gaming latency is excellent (near LG G5 OLED levels), but motion clarity trails top OLEDs and even some TCL QM7 scenes; the optional 288 Hz mode at ~1440p isn’t meaningfully better. Text clarity is solid with a BGR-style subpixel and the crisp glossy coating; wide viewing angles are the weak point. Sound is loud but thin. Google TV is lightning fast and intuitive—best UX I’ve used. Overall: huge size, high brightness, strong contrast, elite interpolation, and great price make the Hisense U8 one of the best mini-LED TVs I can highly recommend, especially for bright-room movie watching and big-screen gaming.
