According to religious texts, the festival of Kalabhairava Ashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month. It is believed that on this day Lord Shiva incarnated Kalabhairava. Therefore, this festival is celebrated as Kalabhairava Jayanti.
