From Mainland Spain to the Canaries via Madeira | A 1,500nm Sprint to the ARC Start Line! (Ep.5)

Welcome back, friends! Last time, we wrapped up our first overnight passage, a 180 nm sail from La Rochelle, France to Loredo, Spain, that kicked off just after a storm and kept us on our toes from the start. Since leaving Denmark, we’ve now logged over 1,300 nm, and as September rolls in, weather windows are tightening as Atlantic storms are stacking up. We still have 1,500 nm to go with just 10 weeks to reach the Canary Islands where we’ll join the ARC and prep for the rally to cross the Atlantic. This leg takes us down the Portuguese coast, avoiding storms, orcas and marina closures, except for Nazaré. From Lisbon, we make a dash to Madeira with a 25-35 knot blow on our beam the whole way. Not the forecast we were hoping for, but it did cut our passage time in half! Along the way, we finally start landing fish for the BBQ and even hook a big one that doesn’t quite make it onboard.
