The method changes depending on pipe thickness, fit-up, bevel depth, cup size, and welding position. For thin-wall pipe, you can freehand or walk the cup due to the shallow bevel. For heavy-wall pipe, a smaller cup that fits between the grooves provides better control and smoother travel.
