Need for Speed in 2022 could become the NFS Underground 3 or Most Wanted 2. But is that really the case? In about 10 months, we'll be playing the next Need for Speed game. Unless, of course, EA decides to delay the project again, as they did last year to focus more on Battlefield 2042. The new NFS is shrouded in uncertainty. Ghost Games, the studio responsible for the franchise for a time, was shuttered in February 2020, just three months after the release of NFS Heat. The series was handed over to Criterion, but just a month later, the pandemic swept the planet, undoubtedly leaving a huge mark on the studio. Nevertheless, in June of that same year, Need or Speed Heat received its final update, adding crossplay, and Criterion staff were transferred to the development of the new Battlefield. Naturally, their next standalone game is being postponed to November 2022.
