#KrishnaJayanthi #VellaCheedai #UppuCheedai Krishna Jayanthi is celebrated all over India. The main sweet & savory dish in South India is Vella Cheedai (Sweet ) & Uppu Cheedai (Savory). Here is how to make. First, get prepared with these ingredients: Roast 2 cups of rice flour until you can bear the heat when you touch, sift it finely. Roast 1 cup of Urad dhal, grind and sift it finely. Please do not miss the sifting part because its very important for the Cheedai not to pop. Slightly roast 2 tbsp of sesame and 2 tbsp of grated coconut and keep it aside. For Vella Cheedai (Sweet) Ingredients: 1 cup rice flour 1 tbsp urad flour Little cardamom powder 1 tbsp coconut 1 tbsp sesame ¾ cup Jaggery 1 tbsp ghee Oil for frying Mix the above ingredients and keep aside. In a pan add jaggery and ½ cup of water. Bring it to boil. Then filter it and add on the mix slowly and mix well. Add 1 tbsp ghee and knead softly. Once it comes to room temperature, make small balls. Keep oil in a panand once its hot, reduce the heat to low flame and fry these Cheedai until it turns golden brown. Please do not toss them right away when you add it in the oil. For Uppu Cheedai (Savory) Ingredients: 1 cup rice flour 1 ½ tbsp urad flour 1 tbsp sesame Little dried curry leaves Salt and hing to taste 2 tbsp melted butter Mix the above ingredients adding little water and prepare it like chapati dough. Then roll them very softly and dry them in a cloth for 10 minutes. Dip a toothpick in oil and gently poke the Cheedais. Fry them in medium flame in batches. First add very few, make sure its not popping, then you can add more if comfortable. Tasty Sweet and Savory Cheedais are ready!! Please watch the tips in the video for getting good Cheedai.
