BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have arrested two suspects in Boynton Beach after a tri-county pursuit on northbound Interstate-95. Miami Gardens Police and Broward Sheriff's Office pursued the red Volkswagen Jetta after, according to police, a Miami Gardens officer thought they heard gunshots and then noticed the vehicle flee at a high rate of speed around 4:30 p.m. The chase ended in southern Palm Beach County, where the vehicle crashed into two other vehicles on the Hypoluxo Road off-ramp at 4:57 p.m. The driver of the vehicle bailed out of the car after a tire blew out and he fled on foot, while the other suspect remained in the vehicle and was immediately arrested. After jumping from the ramp and running through the backyards of several homes, a police officer and K-9 caught up with the driver behind a home on Northwest Second Court, and he was taken into custody. Darrly Sanders lives in a home near the area where police caught up with the driver. He, like other residents in the area, was frightened and stayed indoors. "I heard like a boom in the back and I go out in my back and I see like smoke along the gateway exit," Sanders said. "Of course, I ran back into the house because I was scared." Another nearby resident, Sandra Petty, said she also stayed in her home. "My cousin called me down the street and said He's in your backyard.' Well I shut the door. I don't know what's going on," Petty said. Many of the residents were appalled at the action unfolding right in their backyards, but Sanders said he is glad police were able to end the chase. "They did their job. They got the bad guy. Good day," he said.
