It was originally announced exclusively for the PlayStation Vita and released on October 30, 2012, at the same time as Assassin's Creed III. The game was later re-released as Assassin's Creed Liberation HD for the PlayStation 3, Windows, Xbox 360, and Steam via Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Steam respectively. These versions were released on January 15, 2014, in the Americas and Europe. A second remastered version called Assassin's Creed Liberation Remastered was released on March 29, 2019, alongside the remastered version of Assassin's Creed 3. The game takes place between 1765 and 1777 and features the first female protagonist in the series, Aveline de GrandprÃĐ, an Afro-French assassin located near the end of the French and Indian War, in 18th-century New Orleans, during the Spanish rule of Louisiana. Gameplay of the end of Sequence 2 (The Whole Truth) and the beginning of Sequence 3 (In the Tavern and Prelude to Rebellion).
