Hassanal Abdullah, Poet, Translator, Critic, and Editor, International Poetry Magazine, Shabdaguchha

কবি কন্ঠে হাসানআল আব্দুল্লাহ’র স্বনির্বাচিত ৫টি কবিতা (বাংলা) Hassanal Abdullah, a Bangladeshi-American poet, translator, and critic, who introduced a new sonnet form, Swatantra Sonnet, seven-seven stanza pattern and abcdabc efgdefg rhyming scheme, more than 200 of which he wrote in Bengali. He is the author of 44 books in various genres, has written a 304-page epic, Nakhatra O Manusar Prochhad (Ananya, 2007, 2nd edition 2017), where, based on several scientific theories, he illustrates relations between human beings and the universe. The second edition of his Selected Poems was published in 2014. He edited the Twentieth Century Bengali Poetry (Bangla Text, Mowla, 2015). He has three bilingual poetry collections published by US publishers. His book, Kobiter Chhanda (Bangla Academy 1997, 2nd ed. Mowla, 2011) has been a university reference text in Bangladesh since 1997. In 2016, he was invited to attend the International Silk Road Poetry Festival in Szechuan , China where he was awarded the Homer European Medal of Poetry & Art. He also received the Labubhai Foundation Award (2013) for his innovative sonnets. Hassanal Abdullah: Poet Voyager, a bilingual (Bengali-English) anthology about his work, including critical essays, interviews and letters, was published in April, 2017 from Dhaka by Puthiniloy Publication on his 50th Birthday. He also received a translation grant from the Queens Council on the Arts in 2019. Mr. Abdullah is a NYC high school math teacher and the editor of an international bilingual poetry magazine, Shabdaguchha, since 1998.
