At least eight houses have been damaged or destroyed in the village of Rappville as a bushfire emergency grips northern NSW. The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has issued emergency warnings for four separate blazes, which are all burning within about 100km of each other in the state's north. The fires are at Tenterfield, Drake, Busbys Flat and Jackadgery, with nearly 1,000 firefighters expected to work through the night in a bid to control them. In south-east Queensland, at least one home has been destroyed and there are fears for several others as fire crews deal with a bushfire emergency at Laidley in the Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane.
