Twelve A-10 attack planes arrive in England while en route to Middle East

Iconic A-10 attack aircraft arrive in England during Operation Epic Fury in the Middle East. Twelve of the 'Warthogs' flew into the base as a largea crowd of plane spotters and onlookers gathered at the end of the runway in fading light. The A-10 attack aircraft have come from the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan Air National Guard. They are likely deploying to the Middle East to provide close air support to ground forces. The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II went into service in 1977 with the US Air Force and is named after the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt of World War II. The attack plane is unique in it's design as it is built around the 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary auto-cannon seen on the front. The type is expected to be retired in 2026 with many aircraft already having been withdrawn from service. The current conflict may affect this retirement.
