A great bike ride led us to a place with incredible energy—the Hexenkopf, or "Witch's Head" Rock. This isn't just a rock; it's a portal to the past, shrouded in legends. Native Americans and later German "pow-wow" settlers once performed rituals here, believing the rock could heal and cast curses. They say that on Walpurgis Night, witches gather here, and the mica in the stone glows with a mysterious light. It's now a preserved natural area, but the sense of mystery remains. We combined sports, history, and a few chills down our spines! Still a hilly one but more gradual and slighly less mileage than our original route. A festive bike ride (about 14.5 miles round trip) from Water St Park in Hellertown to Hexenkopf Preserve Park (Witch Rock) in Williams Township. A historic cemetary stop during our journey. We will be joined by James Martin, president of the local historical society for a short history lesson about Hexenkopf and a 20 minute hiking loop to see the Witch Rock. Then we'll ride to Kindred Spirits shop in Hellertown for some witchy retail. End back at Water St Park. Witch costumes not required but always encouraged. *This is a hilly one but we’ll go at a social pace and cheer each other on.
