Neighbors remember Philip Seymour Hoffman

Fans and neighbors left flowers at a makeshift memorial outside the home of Academy award-winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman Monday (3 FEB. 2014.) The actor, 46, was found dead in his apartment Sunday after an alleged drug overdose. Law enforcement officials say there was a syringe left in the actor's arm when discovered by police. Neighbors and former tenants shared memories of the actor, calling his passing a "tragedy to the community." "He was like a fixture in our neighborhood we live two blocks away, we saw him all the time, he was just the nicest person. He always said hello and I don't know it's just like having a friendly neighbor die," said neighbor Tara Driver. Known for his complex character roles, Hoffman revealed he had been admitted to a rehab facility for his 23-year battle with drug addiction. Police officials told The Associated Press that glassine envelopes containing what was believed to be heroin were found in the actor's apartment. Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2005 for the film "Capote." He leaves behind three children with partner Mimi O'Donnell.
