As tensions grow between Russia and Ukraine the USS Harry S. Truman, an aircraft carrier as long as New York's Empire State building is tall, is now in the Adriatic Sea leading a Neptune Strike 2022 command group backing up NATO allies. The strike group, along with several other NATO allies, is in the area for coordinated maritime manoeuvres, anti-submarine warfare training and long-range strike training. It's exact location kept as a secret. But it is feasible the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier Truman could be used to further bolster America's NATO partners if aggressions break out. Speaking on board the Truman on Wednesday Commander of the Carrier Strike Group 8, Rear Admiral Curt Renshaw said his team is prepared and ready to operate anywhere in the world. "The decisions that are made about where a strike group from the United States deploys is really at the Secretary of Defense level," he said. "But we are ready to operate anywhere and we planned to be on an extended deployment when we left Norfolk (Virginia, USA) and we plan to be able to operate wherever we are needed most,"Renshaw said. "We are needed here most right now and that is part of what we are doing operating with NATO and we are prepared to stay here and we are prepared to go anywhere the Secretary of Defense and our national command of authority need us to go," he said. Earlier in the day, U.S. officials said the United States will send nearly 3,000 extra troops to Poland and Romania to reinforce Eastern European NATO allies in the face of what Washington describes as a Russian threat to invade Ukraine. Russia, for its part, signalled it was in no mood for compromise by mocking Britain, calling Prime Minister Boris Johnson "utterly confused" and ridiculing British politicians for their "stupidity and ignorance". Moscow has massed more than 100,000 troops near Ukraine's borders. It denies any plan to invade its neighbour but says it could take unspecified military measures if its demands are not met, including a promise by NATO never to admit Kyiv. The 1,096-feet (334-metre) Truman, with a 4.5-acre (1.8 hectare) flight deck, is home to more than 70 tactical and support aircraft including F18 Super Hornet fighter jets, surveillance planes and a crew of 5,500. It's primary mission is to conduct 'sustained combat air operations' according to press office information. Which also says it 'is the most formidable ship ever put to sea.'
