(28 Sep 2012) The Senate rejected President Ronald Reagan's nomination of Robert H. Bork to the Supreme Court by a 58-42 vote, ending a long and contentious debate over a judge alternately portrayed as a brilliant jurist and a dangerous extremist. Six Republicans joined 52 Democrats for the largest negative vote in history for such a nomination. Forty Republicans and two Democrats voted for confirmation.
