It's being called the biggest infrastructure project ever developed by China outside its borders. A multi-billion dollar series of roads and railways known as the China Pakistan Economic Corridor is set to link Western China to a Pakistani port, not far from the Gulf. It should slash days off shipping routes, providing a massive economic boost to Beijing. Pakistan also stands to gain from new jobs, new industries, and new projects that should alleviate debilitating power cuts. But the country's shaky security situation is raising serious questions about just how feasible the project really is.
