This video is mostly a discussion and demonstration of a (non-exhaustive) collection of tinders I found around the house that are suitable for ferro rod ignition. I must admit that I was quite frustrated that I didn't get the Horse's Hoof Fungus to ignite. It had worked very well earlier in the day as I was practicing. We made this video just before sunset, though, and my son Gabriel, a capable Firecrafter in his own right, mentioned that he noticed that the dew was beginning to fall. I too noticed that the grass we were sitting in was very slightly moist as we were cleaning up. Maybe that was the problem? The piece of fungus I attempted to use had been resting on the grass beside me for maybe 45 minutes - the time it took us to set up and then make the video. Could it be as simple as me forgetting to keep my tinder dry? Aargh! We'll see. I intend to try again soon. Oh, the irony that failure is such a good teacher. Practice, persistence and patience are key virtues when making fire by primitive (or at least less modern) means. Regardless, I had fun and I hope you enjoyed watching!
