Homily 23rd Sunday Ordinary Time Yr C, Renouncement

The logic of our faith many times turns upsidedown the way we think and our values. We are reminded that to follow Christ, to live our faith and love of God, entails freeing ourselves from attachments. All that will not be beneficial to our following of Jesus Christ must be rejected or be put aside. We renounce ourselves of many things into order to let our hearts be free to love and serve God best. Whatever attachments we have in life, even if it could mean humanly speaking important, if that is hindering us to love God best, we must renounce ourselves of it. All things and all that we hold dear when we put God first, we actually find them in God. We renounce in order to be empty; thereby, allowing God to fill us up.
