"When the Snows of Winter Fall" is the last song (for now) on the theme of snow, and the first in a short series of songs by the great Teesside songwriter Graeme Miles. This is another hopeful song of the turning seasons, of the need to prepare well for winter, but: "Through the bitter cold and darkness, our hopes we will keep high, For we know the warmth of summer, will come back by and by" and of being able to be happy with little material wealth: "I am not a man of riches... But my love is here beside me; I need nothing more at all" I learnt this at The Sage Gateshead and refreshed my memory by listening to Martyn Wyndham-Read's version. Graeme Miles (1935 – 2013) was an English songwriter who was based in Middlesbrough, on Teesside. He wrote well over 200 songs; his songs have been covered by many artists including many of the North East's leading folk artists such as The Unthanks, The Young Uns and The Wilsons.
