한국 펜싱 여자 에페, 9년 만에 단체전 은메달 쾌거... 황선우, 자유형 100m 한국 신기록 Another action-packed day at the Tokyo Olympics. With one silver and one bronze medal won, South Korea stands at sixth place on the charts.... tied with Australia. Han Seong-woo zooms in on the action. South Korean women's epee fencers have won the silver medal in the team event at the Tokyo Olympics. In the final, Team Korea lost to Estonia 32 to 36 as the country bagged its first silver medal of this year's Games. The achievement comes nine years after Korea finished second place at the same event in the 2012 London Olympics. Not too long later, taekwondo's In Kyo-don defeated Ivan Trajkovic of Slovenia to take home the bronze medal in the men's plus 80 kilogram category. Swimmer Hwang Sun-woo, meanwhile, has advanced to the semifinals of the 100 meter freestyle... rewriting his national record for the event. The eighteen year old clocked in at 47-point-97 seconds... reducing his best time by point-zero-seven to finish within the top 16 overall at sixth place. Hwang failed to win a medal in the 200 meter freestyle final on Tuesday morning but he's now the first South Korean swimmer since Park Tae-hwan in 2012 to have made it to an Olympic final. He started strong in the 200 meters, but failed to replicate his success in the heats where he set a new national record. Time's on Hwang's side though... he's only 18 so he should be hitting his peak in three years' time for Paris 2024. And in shooting, four-time Olympic champion Jin Jong-oh, for the first time since 2004, failed to win a gold medal... getting eliminated in the first qualification round of the mixed team ten meter air pistol event. Tokyo 2020 was Jin's chance to become the undisputed, most decorated South Korean Olympian of all-time. A podium finish would've put him ahead of women's archery legend Kim Soo-nyung who's tied for the most medals won. Another shock defeat came in archery. Kim Je-deok, who's already won two gold medals in the men's and mixed team event, lost in the men's individual contest round of 32. South Korea still has Oh Jin-hyek and Kim Woo-jin left to bring home gold, though. There are concerns, however, that the tropical storm approaching Japan will have a negative impact on Team Korea's performance. Some archery matches have been delayed but having trained for any possible situation, Korean archers remain confident, even saying bad weather is nothing new.
