Extreme hot weather plagued Israel today, compounded by dry desert winds, causing outbreaks of fires all over the country. Residents of several communities closest to the blazes were forced to evacuate. Due to the fires in the Jerusalem environs, 100 residents of a center for people with disabilities in the Village-Roglit were evacuated today to the Shalva National Center in Jerusalem. Shalva serves as the national emergency center of the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Social Services, absorbing people with special needs during times of crisis and emergency. Shalva is equiped for immediate long-range absorption of the residents of the center in Roglit, providing all necessary components such as room and board, and social services. The evacuees were welcomed at Shalva by the Shalva Band, who were rehearsing at the center at the time, providing a welcome escape from the tension and upheaval. Shalva's founder Kalman Samuels said: We are proud to be Israel's partners in providing such an essential solution for people with disabilities in times of emergency.
