Wheel of Harmony #1. Harmonic Techniques for Jazz Standards (I Should Care) Upper Structures

source: https://mdecks.com (mDecks Music) Music Books & Apps for Musicians by Musicians. In this video we discuss an amazing jazz harmonic technique: Upper Structures. This technique is found in many different genres, from jazz to pop to classical. We demonstrate how to use upper structure chords in the song "I Should Care". Upper Structures is a great technique to produce interesting harmonic color and sounds based on a simple chord chord-scale pairing concept. Wheel of harmony is a music theory series where we pick a harmonic technique at random (out of 12 essential harmonic techniques) and then teach the music concept and show examples where these techniques appear in jazz standards. We also apply the current jazz harmonic technique to a jazz standard to teach you how it works, and how to use it over different harmonic progressions.
