Wide of Rice and Lee talking STORYLINE US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice insisted on Saturday that US beef is safe to eat and urged South Koreans to accept their government's decision to lift a ban on the products. Rice also said she hoped the beef controversy won't distract from important issues facing the United States and South Korea, most notably the six-nation talks over North Korea's nuclear programme. "In terms of difficulties that sometimes arise from trade disputes, they are normal in relations between states," Rice said at a joint news conference with South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan. Rice arrived in Seoul and met with South Korean officials, including Yu, one day after neighbouring North Korea destroyed the cooling tower at its main nuclear facility. "At the end of this, we have to have the abandonment of all programmes, weapons and materials," she added.
