Thousands in Europe protest COVID-19 restrictions as case numbers rise

Tens of thousands of people have gathered across Europe to protest COVID-19 restrictions amid rising case numbers. Demonstrations took place in several countries including Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Italy and the Netherlands. The protest in Vienna voiced opposition to Austria's fourth lockdown and a vaccine mandate which comes into effect in February. Demonstrations in Amsterdam and Rome were in response to the introduction of COVID passes.
