Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) just announced yesterday on Thursday that she tasked her committee heads to draft a new Democratic stimulus package worth roughly $2.4T, which could potentially be brought to the floor next week if Democrats fail to reach a bipartisan deal with the White House before then. This is huge news because it came after Mnuchin announced that he and Pelosi have agreed to restart talks on the second stimulus. Pelosi said Thursday at a news conference, that she expressed hope that there would be another round of talks, but gave no indication that Democrats would bend on their stance that the country needs $2.2 trillion in fresh aid, so this bill is a sign that she is holding firm on the total price tag. Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.), head of the Ways and Means Committee, is leading the charge in drafting up this bill. He said the package is in the range of $2.2 trillion and that it could receive a vote by Oct. 2, when the House is scheduled to recess for the elections. Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and top Democrats released on Thursday specific details of this $2.4T stimulus bill. According to sources this bill is set to include enhanced unemployment benefits, direct payments to Americans, Paycheck Protection Program small-business loan funding, aid to restaurants and airlines, among other provisions. This bill comes as their has been growing pressure from moderates who demanded additional action before lawmakers leave Washington next week to campaign for re-election. During a private meeting yesterday on Thursday, Pelosi told top democrats that “they are still striving for an agreement, and if necessary, they can formalize the bill by voting on it on the House floor.” The measure being drafted is substantially smaller than the $3.4 trillion package the House approved in May with the Heroes act, but it is expected to contain some of the same elements, as well as additional funding for needs Ms. Pelosi said had emerged in recent months. Pelosi had previously vowed that the House would not leave for the November elections without additional action on a stimulus measure so this is definitely a good sign that they are getting a bill drafted up and proposed today or early next week. Representative Richard E. Neal of Massachusetts, and the person in charge of drafting this new bill told reporters the decision to compile another package and work to restart negotiations was in part prompted by Jerome H. Powell, the Federal Reserve chair, who has pressed repeatedly for additional stimulus legislation. Between the fact that jobless claims continue to rise and funding for supplemental unemployment benefits begins to lapse, airline industry executives have been lobbying hard for more money to stave off widespread job cuts and the restaurant sector is increasingly nervous about losing more business when it becomes too cold to dine outside, he explained how now is the time to get a deal done. Representative Stephanie Murphy, Democrat of Florida, told reporters on Thursday that “I am hopeful that this will get Republicans to the table to deliver much-needed aid to the American people. She said “shame on them if they can’t come to the table when we have consistently been working on a proposal to give much-needed resources out to the communities.” #StimulusCheck #StimulusUpdate #StimulusPackage ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️DISCLAIMER⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ I am not a CPA, attorney, insurance, contractor, lender, or financial advisor.
