Point A point has no dimensions (length, breadth, thickness). It only indicates the location. Point is represented by capital letters (A, B, C…). Line Segment A straight line connecting two fixed points is called a line segment. It has two end points. Example: Line segment between points A and B = AB̅. Line A line has no beginning and end. It extends to infinity on both sides. It is represented by putting arrows (↔) on both sides. Example: AB↔. Ray A ray has a starting point but no end. It continues to increase on one side to infinity. Example: AB→ (starts from A and moves towards B). Angle When two rays emerge from the same point they form an angle. That common point is called the vertex. Angle is represented by ∠. Example: ∠ABC (where B = vertex). Types of Angles Acute Angle: Between 0° to 90°. Right Angle: Exactly 90°. Obtuse Angle: Greater than 90° but less than 180°. Straight Angle: 180°. Reflex Angle: Greater than 180° but less than 360°. Complete Angle: 360°. Angle Bisector Dividing an angle into two equal parts is called angle bisection. The bisector line divides the angle into equal parts. How to construct an angle (Construction of Angle) (With compass and scale) Draw a ray. Draw an arc by placing the compass at its starting point. Where the arc cuts the ray, draw another arc by placing the compass at that point. In this way, an angle of required degrees is constructed. Example: To construct a 60° angle, divide the angle into six parts by drawing equal arcs with the compass. To construct a 90° angle, take the bisector of 60° and 120°.
