Cognitive Distortions: Disqualifying the positive - Byte of CBT

You pass an exam BUT you say to yourself, I passed because the exam was too easy. Or You receive a compliment BUT you say to yourself they said it just to make you feel nice. These are examples of the cognitive distortion - Disqualifying the positive. In this unhelpful thinking pattern you take positive events and assign them negative or neutral meanings. What you really need to do is learn to see the positives, neutrals and negatives in an objective manner. Each one of us has positive, negative and neutral qualities - that is what makes us human.
