Lauren Hill gives check, hope for curing cancer

Dying 19-year-old raises $176,186 for Children's Hospital. Lauren, a 19-year-old Mount St. Joseph freshman, has been working with The Cure Starts Now to help raise awareness and money to fight DIPG. The pediatric cancer doesn't get much funding or attention because there are fewer than 200 new cases in the U.S. each year. The head of The Cure Starts Now used a basketball analogy in honor of Hill, who inspired the country by playing in her first college basketball game Nov. 2 despite her cancer. He said this money will not go to haphazard drug trials like throwing up a wild shot and hoping it goes in. He said the money will enable them to do do smart strategic research, which they owe to Lauren.
