"Every one of the fallen has a memorial day." On April 24th, the day after Yom HaShoah, our solidarity trip to Israel visited the National Memorial Hall for Fallen Soldiers at Mount Herzl. Inside the hall everyone who has died defending the state of Israel or in military service is commemorated with a brick that bears their name, and the date that they fell. The earliest bricks are from 1860. As we neared the memorial we were lucky enough to be approached by a young soldier who was happy to explain the purpose of the memorial. Every day is a memorial day at this site; each morning, those who fell on the same date since 1860 have a light switched on to mark their brick, and their name is read out in a ceremony. Israel pledged to "remember all of them" and the daily ceremony and the impressive hall are this promise made manifest. ----------------------------------- ✉️ KEEP IN TOUCH ✉️ Subscribe to our mailing-list: https://www.ourfight.uk/support-us/ -------------------------------- 🔗 USEFUL LINKS 🔗 For more on the Memorial Hall: https://www.architecture.com/awards-a... https://english.mod.gov.il/About/Lega...
