Migrants Refuse to Buck in Face of Military, Police at Macedonian Border

Migrants from the Middle East and Africa continue with their efforts to reach other countries in Europe through Macedonia despite the recent state of emergency the country declared to curb their influx. The migrants, who reached Greece through Turkey, intend to head to Serbia by passing through the Macedonian border. An estimated 44,000 migrants have arrived in Macedonia, a major transit point to European Union member countries, in the last two months. Over 33,000 of them are Syrians, with the rest coming from Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and various African countries. Backed by armored vehicles, the Macedonian army closed the border on Thursday when the country declared a state of emergency but allowed some migrants to pass through on Friday. "We have the Greek documents, not the Macedonian. We don't have the documents. They asked us how did we cross the border. We told them we crossed the border illegally. They called some vans and they took us to the border again," said Mazen, a migrant from Syria. Mazen had passed the Greece-Macedonia border crossing in Evzonoi several times with others by climbing the nearby hills. But they were sent back to the Greek side after being caught by Macedonian police. "We tried four times and they sent us back here. I told them, we can't go back, we have no home. You send us back to Greece, where am I going to sleep now? On the street," said Sami, another Syrian migrant. "We hope the UN can solve this problem on the Macedonian border so we can cross the border to other countries," said Mazen. More on: http://newscontent.cctv.com/NewJsp/ne...
