You often see the two door version of the Bel Air hardtop..but here's the four door version. Two door hardtops seemed to start around 1949, most notably with the Buick Riviera..but four door hardtops followed, and were plentiful by the mid 50's. In fact, I have an ad that showed THREE different series of four door hardtops featured by DeSoto in 1956! They offered the advantage of more of an "open air" appearance than the typical sedan.
