He, along with Knight Artorias, Ciarian and Hawkeye Gough, formed the Knights of Gwyn. However, not long after Artorias departed to dispel the Abyss, Ornstein was left in Anor Londo as the final knight. Eventually, Ornstein lost all loyalty to Gwyn’s dynasty. He abandoned his post and went on a journey to find his old mentor and captain, Gwyn’s disgraced firstborn: The Nameless King. Gwyndolin knew that Anor Londo would fall without Ornstein, so he created an illusion of the Lion Knight. Not even Smough knew that he was the only living person left defending the land of the Gods.
