Canada has enough COVID-19 vaccines to fully vaccinate all eligible Canadians: Trudeau | FULL

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Tuesday that the country had received more than 66 million COVID-19 vaccines, enough to fully vaccinate every eligible Canadian. As of Tuesday, 64 per cent of all eligible Canadians12 years and older have been fully vaccinated with at least 80 per cent having one dose. Trudeau said despite the numbers, following a national public health report shows 89.8 per cent of reported cases across Canada are among those who are unvaccinated, the government would continue to work with provinces and territories to push for more Canadians to get a vaccine dose. The report also found 82.3 per cent of people who died had not yet received a vaccine. Researchers also reported fully vaccinated people were 69 per cent less likely to be hospitalized and 49 per cent less like to die from COVID-19 than those who were unvaccinated. Public Services and Procurement Minister Anita Anand and Health Minister Patty Hajdu also spoke about hitting the milestone, with Anand adding that they expect to have received about 68 million vaccines in total by the end of this week. Pfizer and Moderna officials also said Tuesday that studies were underway on COVID-19 vaccines for those children under 12, though advised it would still take some time before they could submit data to Health Canada for approval. However, Anand said that with about 68 million vaccine doses expected in country by the end of the week, they’ll have enough doses for additional age groups once approved or booster shots if scientific data determines they are needed.
