SAN ANTONIO — Midway through the fourth period of Tuesday’s Class 6A state semifinal, a rushed 3-pointer by Westlake led to a transition bucket for Humble Atascocita. Westlake, which hadn’t trailed all game, called a timeout to sort things out. The Chaps held just a three-point lead, and Westlake coach Robert Lucero sensed a little doubt among his players. “We kind of had a crazy shot, called a timeout, and guys were frustrated,” Lucero said. “I was like ‘Hey, we’re winning.’ Everyone kind of giggled. Suddenly, that moment of tension in the biggest game you’ve played, it’s gone because these guys are so close. They just moved onto the next play.” And as a result of that ability to avoid any kind of panic, the Chaps are moving on to the state championship game for the first time in school history after a resounding 57-44 win at Northside Sports Gym. #TXHSBB #KJADAMS #WESTLAKE
