What’s up, Geekout Squad! We’ve got some bad news straight out of Gotham: The Batman - Part II has suffered yet another major delay! Originally slated for October 2025, and then moved to October 2026, the film is now officially set to be released on October 1, 2027! The New Release Date: Mark your (far-off) calendars for October 1, 2027. This means there will be a massive five-and-a-half-year gap between the first film (2022) and the sequel. The Reason for the Delay: DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn and director Matt Reeves have confirmed the primary cause is the script. Reeves, known for his meticulous and slow writing process, needed more time to perfect the screenplay. Gunn publicly stated, "The only reason for the delay is there isn't a full script." Production Update: Despite the release date delay, the script is reportedly now finished, and the film is confirmed to begin principal photography in January 2026. The Elseworlds Saga: The film is confirmed to remain separate from the main DC Universe (DCU) being built by Gunn and Safran, continuing Matt Reeves' Elseworlds "crime saga" which includes The Penguin TV series. The Core Cast Returns: Robert Pattinson (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Jeffrey Wright (Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred), and Colin Farrell (The Penguin) are all set to reprise their roles, with Farrell praising the finished script as "extraordinary." Is a better, more polished script worth the long, agonizing wait, or is the Caped Crusader testing the patience of Gothamites?
