(15 Sep 2014) South Korean troops took part in a reenactment of the historic Incheon landing operation on Wolmido Island on Monday to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the event. The reenactment involved several military ships, military aircraft and South Korean troops and veterans. The Incheon landing operation was led by General Douglas MacArthur, the commander of the US-led United Nations force in 1950. About 75-thousand troops and 261 navy ships were deployed successfully to complete the operation, which turned the tide in the three year war with the North. General MacArthur ordered the forces to block North Korea's supply and communication lines by cutting through Incheon city. After the re-enactment ceremony, South Korean defence ministry official Park Dae-sub delivered a speech on behalf of Defence Minister Han Min-koo, in which he said the country's military was ready to "strongly punish any military provocation from the enemy." North Korea strongly criticised the event and said that South Korea should carefully consider its cooperation with the US.
