Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation technique, that literally means, the "Integration of Sleep" which systematically guides you into a state of deep relaxation while maintaining conscious awareness. As a form of Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR), Yoga Nidra involves lying down, closing the eyes, and following verbal instructions that guide attention through sensations, breath, and sometimes imagery or intention-setting. This process induces a state between wakefulness and sleep, allowing for profound rest, stress reduction, and nervous system recovery without actually falling asleep. It turns out that Yoga Nidra can take you into a hypnagogic or "liminal" state—particularly effective for learning and imprinting new information—which is ideal for reprogramming your brain after excessive trauma, grief or stress. Because it promotes deep relaxation, emotional regulation, and resilience, it's especially valuable for those coping with trauma and stress. As of 2025, iRest continues to be taught and integrated in numerous military hospitals, bases, and VA facilities across the United States and internationally.
