Hi about This video To use UPI in Saudi Arabia, there are some key requirements and steps you must follow: 1. Prerequisites Indian Bank Account: You must have an NRE (Non-Resident External) or NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) bank account in India. Indian Mobile Number (with Roaming) or International Number: Previously, only Indian mobile numbers (with international roaming enabled) were allowed. Now, NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) has allowed international mobile numbers from certain countries (including Saudi Arabia) to be linked to NRE/NRO accounts through certain UPI apps. UPI App: You must have any UPI app that supports international numbers, such as PhonePe, Google Pay, or BHIM. 2. How to Setup: You can register for the UPI app using your Indian number (with roaming) or your international number: A. Setup with an international mobile number (if your UPI app supports it): Download the UPI app: Download Google Pay, PhonePe, or any other bank UPI app on your phone. Sign up/log in: Open the app and enter your international mobile number (Saudi Arabia number). Select country code: Select your country code (+966) and enter your international mobile number. Verification: The app will send an SMS to your international number. Ensure you have international SMS/roaming balance on your number, as this will be used for verification. Link a bank account: You will now need to link your NRE or NRO bank account. Set a UPI PIN: Once successfully linked, set your UPI PIN (if not already set). B. Setup with an Indian mobile number (if you have roaming enabled): Download the UPI app: Download the UPI app associated with your Indian number. Verification: The app will verify your Indian number by sending an SMS. International roaming and SMS functionality must be enabled on your Indian SIM. Payments: Once registered, you will be able to make payments using UPI in India from your Indian bank account (e.g., to a UPI ID or Indian QR code). 3. International UPI Payments in Saudi Arabia If you want to make a UPI payment directly to a local merchant in Saudi Arabia, here's how: Currently, the Indian government is working on expanding UPI acceptance abroad (discussions have also been held with Saudi Arabia on RuPay cards and UPI). If the merchant has an "International Merchant QR Code" and your UPI app supports this feature, you can follow these steps: Open the UPI app and scan the QR code. Scan the international merchant's QR code. Enter the payment amount in foreign currency (Saudi Riyal). Select the bank account and tap the Activate International UPI option. Enter your UPI PIN and make the payment. ⚡️ Summary: It's possible to use UPI from your Indian NRE/NRO account while in Saudi Arabia. Your Indian SIM needs to have roaming enabled, or you can use an international number (Saudi Arabian) if your UPI app allows it to be linked to your NRE/NRO account. To pay directly at stores in Saudi Arabia, you'll need the "International UPI" feature, which you can activate in your Google Pay or PhonePe app, provided the merchant's QR code supports it.
