DEATH OF THE COSTA CONCORDIA (13 January 2012)

While she isn't technically a liner, rather a cruise ship, the MS COSTA CONCORDIA met a fate that recalled the misfortunes of many liners before her. If anyone thought epic maritime disasters were a thing of the past, then the events of 13 January 2012 proved that assumption wrong. The 114,147 GT ship may have been a 21st century engineering marvel, but technology is no match for jagged rocks and a healthy dose of human incompetence. As a result the infamous list occupied by the likes of TITANIC, EMPRESS OF IRELAND, LUSITANIA, BRITANNIC, and ANDREA DORIA gained a new member: COSTA CONCORDIA.
