Cambridge MP Julian Huppert on Cambridge Amendment to Localism Bill

On the 19th of July 2011 Cambridge MP Julian Huppert expressed his support for an amendment to the localism bill which will, if enacted, allow local councillors to consider the make up of shopping streets when considering planning permission for new shops. The Cambridge amendment to localism bill introduces: "requirement to assess the vitality & diversity of the shopping areas" Secondly, that: "When preparing local development documents and other local planning documents the local planning authority must consider the results of that assessment and consider whether to include appropriate policies to promote the vitality and diversity of those shopping areas". Thirdly, that: "The local planning authority may prepare a scheme for retail vitality and diversity which may be a local development document or other local planning document". http://www.theyworkforyou.com/lords/?...
