Gusty Garden Galaxy (piano cadenza w/ orchestra)

Here I am, making my debut at the home of the The Cleveland Orchestra's Severance Hall, performing an original piano cadenza (based on Gusty Garden Galaxy) with the @VideoGameSymphony in front of a 1000+ person audience. What an absolute thrill! I initially wrote this cadenza for a collaboration with @TheIcarusKid, one of my personal favorite EDM/VGM producers, who was making a dance track of Gusty Garden Galaxy. We were talking about collaborating and he had this wild of idea of inserting an out-of-time piano cadenza in the middle of a dance track. He gave me free rein to create whatever I wanted, just make it virtuosic! I had lot of fun coming up with this, even quoting a little Ravel in there. The track turned out great (here's a link to that track -    • Mario Galaxy ▸ Gusty Garden Galaxy ~ The I...  ) and I always thought it would be awesome to perform it live with an orchestra someday, somehow. That opportunity came a couple months ago when director, Andrew Keller, asked me if I'd be willing to play a feature for them on their Severance Hall Concert. I pitched this cadenza to him and we were able to work it into their Super Mario Galaxy suite. When the time came to perform it yesterday, I was ready. I felt the nerves, but locked it in and I'm happy with how I performed. We got the audience involved too (which was Andy's idea) and it was just a blast. 🙂 Huge congrats to entire orchestra and everyone involved! The orchestra truly sounded phenomenal and are doing wonderful things for video game music as a whole. Keep en eye out for future performances by them!
