His revolutionary step into pantonality and the subsequent development of the twelve-tone method provided the foundation for generations of younger composers. Stefan Litwin will trace these extraordinary developments and illustrate — in conversation with the composer’s daughter Nuria Schoenberg-Nono — some of the historical and personal background. In addition, the lecture-recital will focus on how Schoenberg changed our understanding of the standard repertoire and helped shape new forms of interpretation.
